School of Law
The UFSC Law program traces its origins to the Faculty of Law of Santa Catarina, founded in 1932 in Florianópolis by José Arthur Boiteux. The faculty was federalized in 1956, paving the way for its incorporation into the newly created Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), established that year by President Juscelino Kubitschek – making our undergraduate program older than the university itself.
Since January 1997, the School of Law (CCJ) has been housed in its own dedicated building on the main UFSC campus, encompassing all teaching and research facilities, as well as the Legal Practice Center.
For nearly a century, CCJ has been recognized for the excellence of its faculty, staff and students. It ranks among Brazil’s top Law schools and holds a solid position in international rankings.
The Graduate Program in Law (Programa de Pós-Graduação em Direito – PPGD) enjoys strong national and international recognition as one of the leading centers for legal research and education. Its activities extend beyond the UFSC campus, offering courses in other states, welcoming students from across Brazil and abroad, and promoting academic exchange with renowned institutions in Europe and the Americas—fostering the democratization of legal research and knowledge.
